Computing

Computing Science is taught alongside ICT in all Key Stage areas, in order for children to learn and understand the key ‘Computational Thinking’ concepts that are now required by the National Curriculum(2014).

The focus is now based on programming, but as a practical subject, it encourages, invention, resourcefulness and creativity.

Children are taught through a wide range of methods and experiences from the practical use of : Osmo coding on ipads in Foundation Stage to coding of BBC Micro bits in Y5/6.

Every week children will experience time in the ICT suite for focussed IT skills sessions and will also have opportunities to apply them across the curriculum using a variety of methods, from using ipads to create ‘Story Sacks’ to ‘Green Screening’.

Knowledge and skills are then assessed by the classroom teacher alongside the Computing co-ordinator at the end of every term.

Story Sacks

Story Sacks are another of our school non-negotiables. Using a group of core apps, children create a ‘Story Sack‘ based on knowledge and experiences from across the curriculum. This is then uploaded to our School app allowing parents to share their child’s multi-media work completed in school.

A Story Sack created by a Y5 pupil linked to the #everynameneedsastory project. of one of the many Bridlington men who never returned during  WW1, placed next to his headstone on the Somme Nov 2018.
