At our school we place a high value on the role of art as part of a rich and creative curriculum. Children participate in some kind of art activity almost every day, for example through drawing and labeling diagrams, creating art for the numerous displays within school, drawing story boards or pictures to enhance their literacy work.
We aim for every child to learn how to use pencil skills and close up observations to sketch and draw; to be able to choose and collect their own equipment so they can create their own uniqueness in their work; to be able to use photography and computer technology to enhance digital imagery and to be able to evaluate their own progression as they move up throughout the school.
We provide a programme of opportunities for children to visit places out in the community and further afield (Year 6 London trip in the Summer Term, Year 3 trip to Burton Agnes Hall, Year 2 trip to Sewerby Hall) to value the variety of art with its many paintings, photography, sculptures, graffiti and its many other expressions.
There are numerous completions throughout the year in which children are encouraged to take part in to release their own self-expression, and Art is used widely as part of our cross-curricular curriculum. We have yearly termly visits from Dawn and Lee of the Animated Objects Theatre Company, who work within classes and the whole school to produce art, ICT and live performances within the whole school.
